About The Series
While on assignment in the Northern Marianas, French marine biologist Dr. MAXIME ROSTAND and his two companions DAVID GLUCK, a marine engineer and BEATRICE “B.B” BERETHELOT, a former Sea World Orca trainer-turned radical animal rights activist sail their research vessel, Benita into the mysterious warm mineral waters of Maug. Once a massive volcanic island, Maug’s eruption five million years ago destroyed everything above the surface save for three small islets which is all that remains of the volcano’s rim. The cove is actually Maug’s magma chamber. When the Pacific Ocean rushed in, the lava hardened into basalt rock and clogged the lave tube, forming the lagoon’s basin. Warm water and gasses still percolate up from the mantle through gaps and fissures in the basalt, feeding coral beds that support a healthy food chain.
